Yemen called the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD XII) to form a special committee, offering proposals to resolve the food crises and price hike in world markets and to be run under the supervision of the UN General Secretary.

The Minister of Industry and Trade, Yahya al-Mutawakel, said in his intervention at the ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China, that higher food prices risk wiping out the progress in the imported countries, which Yemen is among.

He called for support to join the least developed countries to the accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). He added that the least developed countries must take advantage of globalization, especially in the field of investment and sustainable development.
