Democracy leads to development

Yemen’s initiative to conduct the first governors’ elections represents specific improvement in the path of democratic experience, Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation said. In an elaborated meeting with representatives of donors, al-Arhabi confirmed Yemeni government’s determination in rooting democratic experience via expanding public participation in making economic and political participation. 

He reviewed achievements Yemen realized in implementing the national reforms agenda, disclosing government’s intention to make national strategy for investment propagation in Yemen. 

Minister of Local Administration, Abdul-Qader Hilal, confirmed that the experiment of conducting the first governors’ elections in Yemen is Yemeni initiative imposed by national interests, noting that Yemen has paid huge price because of administrative centralization. 

The representative of the United Nation Development Program here, on behalf of donors and representatives, presented a review on current support and future support for supporting decentralization system in Yemen as well as views concerning coordinating donor efforts in this regard.
