Joining Yemeni Organization for Specifications and Measures (YOSM) to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standardization Organization is underway and has to complete soon, Secretary General of GCC Standardization Organization Saud al-Askar said.
Al-Askar said that a timetable plan for including YOSM to the gulf institution would be set up. He clarified in a press conference held on Tuesday in Sana’a that the aims of his visit to Yemen is for acquainting himself with the needs of the YOSM for completing measures to join the GCC.
“There is noticeable improvement in YOSM's activities, especially in metropolitan activity that is equal to the GCC's," said al-Askar.
He reviewed the cooperation with the YOSM in the fields of training, providing measurement specifications and Gulf technical bylaws, noting that they have agreed on making training programs in Yemen on 2009. Earlier, al-Askar met a number of private sector's representatives acquainting them with the visit's results and on the activities of the Gulf institution for supporting industries.
On the other hand, Abdul Karim al-Arhabi, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, valued during his meeting with al-Askar the Gulf decision to join Yemen to more bodies of the GCC.
Al-Arhabi affirmed the keenness of the Government to finish all the procedures concerning Yemen’s access to other GCC's authorities, including the GCC Standardization Organization.
The meeting also focused on issues linked to joining Yemen to the organization according to the outcomes of Yemeni-Gulf mutual consultations and the decision of the last Gulf Summit.
