High records in building and ornamental – stones establishments sales to YR 23 billion

The establishments dealing with ornamental and building stones achieved high records by increasing their sales to YR 23 billion in 2007. The queries sales recorded YR 13 billion while the stone crushers recorded YR 10 billion. A geology and survey department report pointed out that the annual production of about 2,623 establishments mounted to 16,615 tons. The report also pointed out that six governorates are dominating the building and ornamental stone industry, with Sana’a, Amran and  Ibb on top. Taiz, Hajja and Thamar also come next in this industry. The statistics showed that a large number of workforces are attracted by the saws, plants and queries. The workforce at these establishments is estimated to be 15,000, with Sana’a coming on top of the highest production of plant products and building stones rate exceeding 50 percent of all the other governorates’ product. The sales rate of 698 establishments in the governorate were over YR 20 billions, followed by Taiz at a sales rate of YR 1,7 billion and then Hodeidah at YR 1,4  billion rate. Hajja’s sales rate is YR 927 million and al-Mahwait at YR 900 million. T

he building and ornamental stones industry, which widely spread in the country, is considered to be one of the most important crafts that depend on local materials. The natural stone industry depends on the variation, size and color of the varied raw materials available in Yemen.
