A US team is to arrive in Yemen on the 12th of June for a week-long visit which comes within US efforts to aid Yemen's accession into the World Trade Organization.
The visit will evaluate the situation at the customs authority, the Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO), and the Ministry of Agriculture, in an attempt to familiarize them with their technical needs to implement WTO accords.
The team, from a US consulting company, will hold meetings with Yemeni officials at the relevant authorities over steps Yemen has taken to join the WTO.
The talks will focus on the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement and The WTO agreement on customs valuation.
On the other hand, the Minister of Industry and Trade Yahya al-Mutawakel has discussed with non-resident Australian ambassador to Yemen Kevin Magee the developments regarding Yemen's accession into the WTO.
The meeting, held last Tuesday, discussed the possibility of Australian support for the preparation of a Yemeni industrial development strategy, as well as learning from Australian experiences in this field.
Trade cooperation between the two states and ways to boost it were also raised in the meeting.
