The World Intellectual Property Organization is willing to provide all the technical support the Ministry of Trade and Industry required to protect its intellectual property, said Francis Gurry, Deputy Director-general of the WIPO, during his meeting with Yahya al-Mutawakel the Minister of Industry and Trade, last Tuesday.
During the meeting, al-Mutawakel discussed with Gurry aspects of cooperation between the organization and the ministry in addition to the support the WIPO might provide for training the ministry’s cadre and setting up an infrastructure for the intellectual property system in the country.
The minister reviewed the government’s efforts to pass suitable legislation pertaining to intellectual property to meet the requirements of the World Trade Organization, and praised the WIPO for its efforts to assist the country.
