The contribution of the tourism sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached to $425 million last year compared to $309 million in 2006, according to official statistics issued by the Ministry of Tourism.
The statistics showed an increase of tourists who arrived in Yemen: up to 400,000 tourists in 2007 against 350,000 tourists in 2006.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mohammed Mutahar, said that the ministry is working to increase the number of tourists to exceed one million by 2015, as well as raise the tourism revenues to make its contribution to the GDP $1.3 billion by the same year.
