Saving water is the main concern of SFD.
The total projects implemented by the Social Development Fund (SFD) up until the end of 2007 exceeded 7,000 developmental projects at total cost of YR105 billion, while the number of beneficiaries of these projects reached to 14 million people in various governorates.
The SFD Board of Directors approved the financial statement for the end of 2007 and the report at a meeting held last week, chaired by PM Dr. Ali Mujawar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the fund.
The financial statement stated that the total financial resources of the fund for 2007 amounted to YR22.4 billion from various sources, while its cumulative balance up until the end of the year was YR107.3 billion.
During the meeting, the directors discussed the achievement report of 2007. The report indicated that 941 projects were implemented in 2007, six projects over the originally targeted number.
The fund’s work during the second phase, specifically from 2004 to 2007, completed 88 percent of the total projects planned. During this time, 3,538 of the total 4,009 targeted projects were completed at a cost of $343.4 million.
The Board of Directors commended the efforts made by the executive management of the Social Fund for Development in the planning and implementation of targeted projects which aimed to combat unemployment and reduce poverty.
The SFD has allocated YR22.5 billion to implement 1251 service and development projects for the year 2008. These projects are distributed in the fields of health, education, environment, agriculture, training and institutional support, the support for people with special needs, and the development of small enterprise, in addition to integrated intervention and rural roads.
A report issued by the SFD showed that the fund aims to implement the largest number of projects in the field of education: 230 projects at a cost of $37 million. It will also implement 119 projects in intensive personnel programs at a cost of $27 million, 108 projects at $5 million to support groups with special needs, and 151 projects at $3 million in the area of training and institutional support.
