During the first session of the first meeting of the joint-ministerial committee held in Aden last week, Yemen and Kuwait signed 10 contracts dealing with security, cultural, tourist, and economic matters, in addition to agreements for technical cooperation.

The two countries also signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint-ministerial committee, and a deal for cooperation in Islamic Affairs.

Moreover, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry struck a deal.  The cultural agreement calls for cooperation in documentation and training, and the exchange of publications and information, as well as experts.

Opening the first session, Minister of Foreign Abu Bakr al-Qirbi hailed Yemeni-Kuwaiti developed relations, saying the meeting of the joint committee comes to demonstrate the interest of the two countries in pushing forward their bilateral relationship.

On the other hand, Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Sabah al-Sabah, along with Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi laid on Sunday the foundation for a community college in the Socotra archipelago, costing $10 million, to be funded by the State of Kuwait.

Al-Qirbi affirmed the importance of speeding up procedures to set a bid for the new Socotra commercial seaport, which will be financed by the State of Kuwait with $40 million. Work is projected to start this year, in order to ensure sea transport to and from the archipelago.

The Kuwaiti delegation toured the archipelago, and became acquainted with Socotra’s natural and tourist landmarks.

Al-Sabah told Saba that his visit to the archipelago comes to follow-up on the implementation of the seaport and community college projects, which Kuwait finances through the Kuwaiti support program for development in Yemen.

He expressed admiration of what he has seen in the archipelago, and its increasing development.  Al-Sabah also praised Yemeni-Kuwaiti brotherly relations, affirming that cooperation between the two countries is seeing growing development in all areas.
