The American Association of Yemeni Scientists and Professionals is sponsoring a poetry, spoken word, and hip-hop/rap contest.
The winners’ names will be published in major Yemeni & Yemeni-American newspapers and websites.
The main theme of the competition is the importance of education, and every performance must address that subject, although it may also include other subjects. Performances must be done in English or Arabic and must not be longer than 1,000 words. Anyone performing must be willing to allow the text they write to be published and publicly recited during a future AAYSP event. Submissions must be e-mailed to the AAYSP New York Chapter at
NYAAYSP@yahoo.com by September 15th.
The first prize is a brand new high-quality laptop, the second prize is a brand new digital camcorder, and the third prize is a brand new digital camera.
The winners will be notified by October 12th, 2007. The panel of judges will consist of a committee appointed by the AAYSP.
The contest is open to all Yemeni-Americans, regardless of experience or previous publication. Only one entry per person is allowed. Submissions of works will not be mailed back. All entries submitted must provide contact information; otherwise their entry will be rejected. There are no entry fees and no purchases or membership is necessary.
The AAYSP was formed in 2004 to help address the educational and academic needs of Yemenis. The AAYSP has a dual responsibility toward Yemeni students and professionals. The AAYSP works to promote higher education and provide networking opportunities for our young Yemeni-American students to pursue college and post-graduate education. The AAYSP strives to provide educational resources and networking opportunities to help students and academics in Yemen improve the quality of teaching and research.
