The French Cultural center held a symposium from March 5 through 19, starting with a lecture entitled, “Photographs of Shibam and Prophet Hood grave,” by Architectural engineer Christian De Daral. Daral is a researcher at the center and a member of the archeological mission. The lecture was about “Shabwa,” the ancient city that was the capital of the old Hadramout Kingdom for thirty years.
Other functions included opening a photographic exhibition called “She”, highlighted with pictures from the French funded women’s projects.
The Yemeni photographer Bushra al-Mutawkil, together with the French photographer Jean-Baptiste Lopez, displayed their week-long rural tour outcome, which is a comparative perspective for the Yemeni-French photography skills. The pictures covered the activities of the Yemeni rural woman and the non-governmental organizations working in rural areas.
The center marked the International Women’s Day with a lecture on Yemeni women and development. A documentary film by the famous Yemeni producer, Khadija al-Salami, will be shown in Arabic and French. It summarizes a story of a Yemeni woman called Amina who spent nine years in prison over accusations of killing her husband.
The film will be followed by discussion with the renowned film producer, Jamal al-Shami. The French Cultural Center will organize a lyrical concert for the Tunisian painter, sculpture, writer and singer Amal Mathlothi, the Yemeni singer Nashwal Lute, and composers Abdulafif Yaqob and Sharaf al-Qaidi on March 19 at 8 pm.
