Yemeni film producer, Khadija al-Salami, recently voiced her intention to shoot a new film this year.

26 September quoted her as saying that her documentary will be dealing with the Yemeni community who settled in some south east Asian countries some centuries ago.  These people are characterized by their Yemeni lineage, despite knowing little about life in Yemen. With Arabic and Yemeni family names, they are significant contributers to the development of these Asian countries.

Al-Salami attributed the film’s idea to her visit to Singapore where she was attending the international Asian film festival. There, she met some of the Yemeni community who were eager to hear from their mother country. Listening with great interest to every Yemeni that they met, they learned about the country which their grandfathers left centuries ago, and many made the decision to visit Yemen this coming summer to uncover their roots.

The Yemeni community in Singapore attended many of al-Salami’s film showings about Yemen when they hosted her at their community house and listened to her lecture about the developments that Yemen has undergone.
