Science and culture mixed at Al-Afif' nights

Because of the need of development in scientific research, particularly in the field of science and technology for the growth of the nation, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science at Sana’a University, Dr. Mohammed al-Kuhali lectured on the science policy in Yemen within the agenda of the Technical and Scientific Culture in Yemen project, which was organized by the al-Afif Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the French ‘Research and Development’ Institute and French Cultural Center.
 

The symposium held last Monday May 25 where al-Kuhali discussed the successful elements of research in any scientific and technological field such as modern scientific management, access to accurate information and statistics, enough support within a government, plans, and continuous feedback evaluation.
 

He confirmed the importance of the focus on nuclear and renewable energy, desalinization of sea water, and environmental science for sustainable development.
 

He also spoke about the role that Sana’a University should play in introducing environmental needs in the country and contributing researchers and faculty members to the development process, and establishing proper scientific research linked to these requirements of the society.
 

 On other hand, the al-Afif Cultural Foundation held a poetry reading’ night for the Algerian poet Nassima Bou Slah last Tuesday May 26.
 

The poet who has many literary awards, pleased the audience by reading some of her poems.
 

The evening, which included a lot of questions and discussions, was moderated by the Yemeni poet Dr. Ibtisam al-Mutawakell.
