The British Council will organize a 3-day workshop for 35 academic leaders from Thamar and Amran Universities in Thamar. The workshop will be about the “Quality of Academic Programmes” and will take place from 19th July to 21st July.

The workshop will aim at refreshing the skills of the participants in developing relevant learning outcomes and evaluating them in light of the students’ needs and the strategic priorities. It will also shed the light on the quality of teaching and learning and the specifications and evaluation of the academic programme.

Trainees will be engaged in practical sessions in order to enable them to do it rather than know it only. The workshop will be led by the international expert, Professor Abdullateef al-Hakimi, currently an academic and educational consultant in Yemen and Ex-Dean of the Faculty of Education in the United Arab Emirates University. Prof. Haider has also been delivering training for higher education institutions in many countries in the Middle East and outside.

35 participants have been selected in coordination with the heads of both universities and are mostly Deans, vice deans and Heads of Academic Development units who are in positions to put the workshop objectives into effect.

This workshop is organized as part of the British Council Programme which aims to contribute in developing the standards and quality of higher education in Yemen. Most of the Yemeni public universities and some private ones have already received similar training workshop over the last year. The British Council is UK’s international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations. It boasts 75 years in cultural relations and offices in 100 countries to build engagement and trust with the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people. Working in arts, education, science, sport and governance, it reached over 128 million people in 2008 alone.
