On Harun Yahya’s Ramadan 2007 page

After receiving some complaints about the messages conveyed in Harun Yahya’s Ramadan 2007 page, the publishing and editorial staff of the Yemen Observer has decided to discontinue that page.

While we strongly believe that Harun Yahya and other writers should have the right to publicly articulate their views—even views that we may entirely disagree with—we feel that we have given Mr. Yahya’s views unfairly extensive coverage.

It is the aim of the Yemen Observer to fulfill the journalistic obligation of providing readers with various opinions and perspectives, but we also wish to promote mutual understanding between people of different identities.  We feel that Mr. Yahya’s writings have profoundly misrepresented what many Muslims believe to be the meaning of Ramadan and Islam, and we believe that continuing the publication of his writings would cause further harm and misunderstanding.

For the record, we wish to clarify the fact that Harun Yahya’s opinions do not necessarily reflect the beliefs of the Yemen Observer staff and we apologize to any readers for any insult caused to your religious feelings because of what our newspaper published.
