SANA’A-Yemen’s authorities have deported around 20 Egyptian fishermen last week, who were caught fishing illegally in Yemen’s territorial waters in the Red Sea.

The fishermen were fishing close to the Yemeni island of Aqban in April. An official in Yemen’s Coast Guards authority said: “The fishermen were on two boats, beyond the borders of their permissible fishing.”
Abdullah Al-Jalal, the director of the Coast Guards said the patrolling forces said the fishermen were handed to the Fishery Ministry. Legal procedures were taken and once completed, the order was given for them to be deported back to Egypt.

Abdullah al-Jalal also said that his forces had intercepted “several attempts” to smuggle oil products in the past few months.
“In the past two months alone, two boats, one Yemeni and one Eritrean were seized trying to smuggle oil from Yemen to neighboring countries,” he said.
