Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) security forces seized a large amount of drugs at the Arabian Sea on its way to be smuggled to the KSA on a boat coming from Pakistan last Tuesday, said security sources.

In the beginning of February, Yemen and Saudi joint forces arrested a major international gang involved in producing counterfeit money, and drug dealing. Sources told the Sep 26 website that the members of the gang are from Yemen, Saudi, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Kenya, and that members of the gang were arrested In Sana’a, Aden, and Jeddah, possessing large amounts of drugs and counterfeit money. They were able to phish approximately million Saudi Rial into banks.
The same sources deemed this operation a great success, illustrating the cooperation between the Saudi-Yemeni security forces in addition to the two countries cooperation in fighting terrorism.
In the same context, the prosecution team of the al-Mahra governorate is conducting investigations into the eleven Iranians that were caught in the territorial waters of Yemen on a boat without license, possessing drugs in mid February. No Identification was found with the Iranians. Investigators are still working to search for drugs on the boat that the suspects may have thrown into the sea.
Mohammed Abdullah al-Harazi, governor of al-Mahara, announced at the time of seizing the boat that security officials there are still investigating the real reasons for an Iranian boat’s violation of Yemeni territorial waters but are still facing problems because of the language barrier.
Mubarak Saied, security manager of al-Mahara, said that the security team from the capital arrived to al-Mahara and watched the boat and found modern telecommunications equipment. Saied said, “The investigation with Iranian crew is continuing but there has been no solution until now, and there is a possibility that they may be transferred to Sana’a.”
At this time, the Iranian embassy is still waiting for an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about these events. As reported by an official news agency, the affairs of the Iranian embassy said that no one told them about this event, but they are now aware of it thanks to the Yemeni media.
“According to international protocols, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must tell any embassy about circumstances of its citizens, and we are waiting for an official statement from ministry as soon as possible,” an Iranian diplomatic said.
