Haidan Juma’an Haidan, prosecution manager in al-Qithah, Hadramout, said that an investigation is being completed regarding 11 Iranian sailors who were captured in Yemeni waters last month.
Haidan said that the sailors were investigated for illegal entry into Yemeni territorial waters and not for drug trafficking. A small amount of hallucinogens were found with the sailors, but they were for their own personal use.
He added that the prosecution did not find out why the sailors entered into the Yemeni waters illegally, and that the interpretation difficulties delayed the prosecution from referring them to court.
The coast guard arrested the 11 Iranian sailors last month on Hasween district coasts in a boat carrying sophisticated communication devices, including mobile phones. They will be referred to court next week.
