The first female candidate running for governor in the upcoming elections is from Lahj, according to Minister of Local Administration, Abdul-Qader Helal. The announcement was made last Monday in a press conference.
Also at thevpress conference, Helal announced that that some of the Joint Meeting Parties leaders in al-Dhal’a would run for governor’s elections and expects 70% changes in the governors.
Helal conformed that the homeland is not only for the GPC or JMP, so the people will participate in the election through their representatives at the local councils.
“Al-Dhal’a people have their rights to elect their governor as all the governorates around the land, and the JMP decision to boycott the election shouldn't ban them to have their rights,” Helal said.
The Minister of Administration announced the requirements of the candidates earlier this month, including being over 40 years old, hold a university degree, and have ten years experience in public service, international organizations, or organized private jobs. Also, the candidate must obey the Islamic instructions and have good behaviors and be a resident in the province, have principal place of business, or headquarters of his family therein.
The Ministry of Local Administration recommend the candidate obtain 10% of the total members of the local council of the governorate and districts councils.
The strength of the committees in the capital and provinces are 63 members, spread over 21 of the supervisory committees.
According to a schedule, the committees will train on Tuesday and go to the headquarters in the province capitals Wednesday.
The committees, starting May 3 for six days, must announce the names of applicants whom accepted the nomination.
