Yemen and Syria affirmed their firm support for the establishment of security and peace in the Middle East this past week.
The Yemeni-Syrian Higher Joint Committee held a meeting in Sana’a Saturday, co-chaired by Yemen’s Prime Minister Dr. Ali Mohammed Mujawar and his Syrian counterpart Mohammed Naji Atra.
The two sides emphasized the preservation of Iraq’s Arab identity and the rejection of any act aimed to impinge its unity and violate the integrity of its territories. The two sides expressed their concern for developments of the political crisis in Lebanon and the obligation of a constructive dialogue that could save its national unity, security and stability, besides refusing all forms of interference in Arab affairs and their confirmation of unity.
Issues of cooperation were reviewed along with their future impact on politics, economy, trade, investment, industry, banking, culture, electricity, ports, fish wealth, water and sewage, communications and information technology, media, youth and sports, social securities, agriculture and irrigation, tourism, and public work fields.
The Higher Joint Committee also discussed aspects related to developing the role of the Yemeni and Syrian private sector which should be encouraged by the two countries’
governments by focusing on completing the institutional construction of the businessmen council and confirmation of its effective role in serving economic, trade and investment partnership of Yemen and Syria. The talks also tackled development of the situations in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan and Somalia as well as the region.
In his address at the session, the Yemeni Prime Minister lauded the steady growth of the Yemeni Syrian relations under the care of the political leaderships of presidents of the two countries Ali Abdullah Saleh and Bashar al-Assad.
Mujawar confirmed strengthening the cooperation between Yemen and Syria and expressed his interest to work with all brotherly and friendly countries to create a common basis of interests for meeting ambitions of the Yemeni people and peoples of those countries for more cooperation and joint action to support efforts of development and investment. He also highlighted the development of the Yemeni-Syrian cooperation witnessed by the higher joint committee and the follow-up meetings by senior officials in the two countries.
Mohammed Naji Atra and his Syrian delegation expressed their happiness for taking part in meetings of the joint higher committee, wishing the process of construction and development in Yemen more achievements and successes.
In a press conference Sunday, Mujawar praised bilateral relations between Yemen and Syria under leaderships of both countries represented by President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Syrian President Bashar al-Asad.
He affirmed the importance of the agreements that were signed between the two countries in fields of energy, telecommunication, fisheries wealth, media, youths, social insurance, and industry.
Mujawar expressed interest of both sides to enhance the private sector’s role of to improve bilateral relation, saying that the two sides agreed on announcement of establishing Yemeni-Syrian businessmen council within three months.
The Syrian Prime Minister also alluded to the strong relationship between Yemen and Syria, wishing further progress for these relations.
In answer to the position of Syria and Yemen over the current developments in Lebanon, the two officials confirmed that they are indeed Lebanese internal affairs, pointing out the position of Yemen and Syria, which calls for dialogue between Lebanese factions to avoid division of the Lebanese people.
