New traffic measures implement smoking and mobile ban while driving

Colonel Nadim Mohammed al- Tarzi, the capital’s traffic manager, confirmed that the capital will have a new traffic system regarding the traffic and the pedestrian lights.

Al-Tarzi also said that the Ministry of Interior is seriously considering the implementation of the new traffic system nationwide to reflect the capital, adding that the system will end the present violations and renew the law with the future capital’s extension.

In a special statement to Yemen Observer, al-Tarzi disclosed their intention to prohibit smoking in public transport and the use of mobile phones when driving and fastening the safety belt, assuring that punishments will be imposed for the violating of these measures.

Al-Tarzi also confirmed that no new licenses will be issued to commuter cars, because the present ones exceed the city’s transport demand, adding that, “we will coordinate with the Ministry of Interior to stop offering more licenses because we no do not need them.”

Al-Tarzi denied accusations of taking these steps to benefit private transport companies, dismissing them as sentimental responses and ensuring that the measures are taken only for the public interest. 

He admitted that motor bikes are a big traffic problem and cause many accidents. He said that their ban will be implemented in coordination with capital secretariat, the Customs and Public Work Administrations.
 
Regarding the compensation for 65,000 bikes in the capital, he said that the compensation is illegal, because the motor bikes themselves are illegal, saying that their administration has nothing to do with the compensation issue, confirming that it is the capital secretariat’s affair.  

Al-Tarzi concluded by calling for an amendment of the traffic law, asking the visiting and residing foreigners to abide by the traffic rules.
