Five terrorists were killed and two others detained by security forces in Tarim district, Hadramout province, in the south east of Yemen last Monday.

The security authorities also uncovered large amounts of weapons, explosives and devices that were going to be used to prepare car-bombs in Ideedhasat al-Maqateel area.

During the operation launched by the security authorities the al-Qaeda member Hamza al-Quaiti was killed. Al-Quaiti had issued a statement last week threatening to launch large terrorist operations unless al-Qaeda members in the Yemeni political security prisons were released.

The 26 September website attributed to security sources that among the ceased materials the police found three passports, one of them belonging to Ahmad Saeed Omar al-Mashjari, who launched the suicide operation at the security complex in Sayoun last month.

Two other passports belong to Saudi citizens named Badah Maghas, Bin Badah al-Qahtani and Waleed Bin Radhi, Bin Smilil al-Utaibi.

The source said that more than 50 big sacks loaded with gun powder and large amounts of TNT explosives as well as other materials needed for making bombs were found in the hide out. In addition to this, other weapons including grenades mortars were seized. The sources added that the police also found a number of computers and valuable documents, information and dangerous plans that targeted not only Yemen but the whole region.

The source said that they found information uncovered saying that the Tarim cell was involved in the terrorist operations that targeted the security complex in Sayoun last month, as well as made them responsible for girls’ school attack  adjacent to the US Embassy last October and the customs institute in Sana’a later last year.

Al-Quaiti is one of the fugitives that fled from the political security prison in February 2006. The security source said that al-Quaiti is the fifth person to be killed among the 23 al-Qaeda members that fled from the political security prison. The source added that 15 of the fugitives were detained. Three other fugitives were not detained: Nasir al-Wahaishi, Qasim al-Raimi and Mohammed al-Umdah.

During the operation two security members were killed and five others, including a police colonel, were wounded.

On this respect the President of the Republic Ali Abdullah Saleh conducted a phone call with the Saudi Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abul Aziz last Monday during which he acquainted him on the plots and terrorist plans targeting Saudi Arabia and Yemen that were discovered by the Yemeni police when they stormed the hide out of the Tarim cell.

Interior Minster Mutahar al-Mesri argued on Wednesday security apparatus to double efforts to be in high combat readiness and stable wake for deterring terrorists and outlaws.

In his inspection visit to Hadramout Valley Security Department on Wednesday, he stressed on continuing training and qualification for promoting security performance for facing terrorist sleeping cells. He affirmed importance of enhancing good relations between security apparatus and citizens as well as with local councils’ members for serving interest of security work.
