The archaeologist court has released Sameer Hamad, legendary foreign artifacts smuggler, who was detained over charges linked to smuggling ancient Yemeni relics, the GPC-run almotamar.net has reported. Hamad was arrested in early June, placed under house arrest in Sana'a and released a few days before his trial in court, one of the most important smuggling court cases in the country.

Judicial sources noted that Hamad was released late in September unjustifiably and in contradiction with a previous ruling which mandated his jailing for continuously trading ancient Yemeni relics. This was built on a lawsuit filed by a man from Jawf province in which he appealed to the court to order Hamad to pay a sum of $19 thousand for the artifacts Hamad had stolen from him.

Sameer Hamad, a Jordanian national, was held in June in Sana'a after his return from Hadramout from where he brought loads of wood and copper. He was imprisoned after he violated a ruling imposed on him not to leave Sana'a.
