52 of al-Salem Yemeni Jews flocked to the center of the elections subcommittee in the constituency number 18 in the capital Sana'a to transferee their elections home from the constituency number 170 in Sa'ada to constituency 18 in the capital Sana'a on November 23, 2008.
Rabbi of al-Salem Jews , Yahya Yousef Mosa said that he and all al-Salem Jews minority decided to transfer their elections home from Sa'ada to Sana'a so as to be able to practice their democratic right as voters and candidates . "None of us intends to nominate himself for the upcoming parliamentary elections because we are a minority, though we will practice our right as voters," said Mosa.
Al-Salem minority Jews were transferred from Sa'ada province after had received threats from the supporters of al-Hothi rebel in 2007.
Their were accommodated by the government in the tourism city in Sana'a. Yahya Yousef Mosa said that he and all members of al-Salem Jews wont go back to their home village al-Hayd in Sa'ada because it is not safe and because living in the capital is much better . "Here in Sana'a is safer and better for educating our kids," said Mosa. However he appealed from the president of the Republic Alii Abdullah Saleh to instruct the concerned authorities in charge to write ownership contracts for the apartments that were given to al-Salem families to live in.
On the same context a source at the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referenda SCER said that more than 830 thousands new voters have registered their names at the different sub committees for correcting the elections registry across Yemen until Saturday 23rd of November.
Al-Saelm minority Jews are the remain of Yemeni Jews who preferred to stay in Yemen and had not immigrated to Israel like most of the Yemeni Jews who immigrated in 1948.
Al-Salem used to live in Sa'ada province for more than 3000 years according to Yahya Mosa.
In addition to al-Saelm Jews there are more than 600 other Jews live in Rayda town of Amran province some 60 kilometers to the north of the capital Sana'a.
