Child Odini who was held by the Bani Dhabian tribe has been released following a successful mediation by Sheikh Abdulqawi Ahmed Obad Sharif.

Twenty-three days have passed since 9 year-old Mohammed Abdullah al-Odini was kidnapped by the Bani Thibian tribe.

Mohammed Hamoud al-Odini, said the child was kidnapped en-route to his school at Athban when kidnapers mistook him for a child of Al-Khamiri family yet the child had absolutely no link to the family.  The kidnapper Al-Shoj was injured by al-Khamiri, the man who was mistaken to be the father of the kidnapped child, and another man Mohammed Abdullah Najran was killed.

The release came after the efforts of both Sheikh Abdulqawi Ahmed Obad Sharif and Yemen’s security forces that surrounded the village where the kidnapped child was being held. Sheikh Abdulqawi Ahmed Obad Sharif was able to make a successful deal with the kidnapper, al-Shoj to secure the release of the child.

The deal stipulated that the child would be released in return for the arsh, which will be paid by al-Khamiri (in tribal terms arsh means money paid for the injury.)

The dispute between the Bain Dhabian tribe and businessman al-Khamiri continued for years over a mercury deal. The child Odini remained kidnapped for a month, while the businessman al-Khamiri’s son was kidnapped several months ago and was held by Bani Dhabian for two moths.

In the same context, governor of Sana’a Noman Dowid held a meeting with the local council, sheikhs and social figures of Bani Dhabyan district of Sana’a governorate over the negative impacts of the kidnapping.

The meeting affirmed importance of gathering efforts of all in the district to face those elements that do such criminal act in the district.

The meeting urged all to help authorities to bring these elements to justice.  The governor also affirmed concern of the government to response to the development needs in the district within its annual development plans as well as tackle problems facing services projects in the district especially road and electricity projects.

He also insisted on gathering official and popular effort to enhance security and stability and stand against acts which damage reputation of Bani Dhabyan citizens and Yemenis in general such as kidnapping.

The government would deal hard against these act and people involving in them.

In the meeting, the sheikhs handed over a statement in which they condemned such actions which damaged reputation of the nation.

They confirmed their support for the political leadership represented by the president Ali Abdullah Saleh, the government and leadership of the governorate to protect security and stability of the nation.
