The Yemeni government has warned against the collection of money for Gaza through channels outside the existing legal framework established by the state. They have said that no side is entitled to collect donations under the name of Gaza, stated the office of the Prime Minister last week.

The spokesperson for the PM’s office has said that this process has to be regulated and organized in order to ensure the money reaches the people of Gaza. In last Friday’s sermons, many mosques collected large amounts of money to donate to the Palestinians-the al-Rahman mosque in Haddah collected YR 18 million; around $20,000.

Prime Minister Dr.Ali Mujawar suggested the opening of a special account to hold the consolidated financial contributions for the people in Gaza. The account number at the Central Bank of Yemen is 3.

An official source in the Prime Minister’s Office told Saba News Agency that the suggestion comes from President Saleh’s order to launch a campaign to collect financial contributions for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It is also seeking to mitigate the effects of the unjust embargo and the brutal aggression they are exposed to from the Israeli war machine

The source said that Yemenis are ready to help and support their Palestinians brothers, confirming that this is a religious and humanitarian support effort. He calls on everyone to contribute generously to the brothers in the Gaza Strip so as to enhance their steadfastness in the face of brutal aggression, and ease the suffering caused by the unjust embargo imposed on them.

An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Yemeni government has contacted the leadership of Hamas to discuss developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip in the light of Israeli aggression and massacres committed by the Zionist occupation forces against Palestinians.

The source pointed out that these discussions dealt with ways to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the face of the continuing aggression and blockade imposed on them.

Official sources at the Yemeni government have said that Yemen has prepared 42 tons of aid for the people of Gaza. The source added that the aid is ready, and constitutes a gift from the people of Yemeni to the victims of Israeli attacks against Gaza. Currently, it is awaiting permission to pass through al-Aareash airport on its way to Gaza, the source said that this aid has been prepared according to the president’s instructions to assist the people of Gaza.

In other related news, an official governmental source said that Yemen has declared its readiness to receive 500 injured Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and treat them in Yemeni hospitals.

The source said that Yemen would send airplanes to transfer injured people from Arish, Cairo or any Jordanian airport.

The source has appealed to Arab countries to receive injured Palestinians, and treat them to ease the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
