Two senior criminal investigation officers were ambushed in the Khashm al-Ein area as they were returning from the al-Wadia’ area with two of their guards.  Thursday al-Qaeda announced their responsibility for the attack in a statement put on a al-Qaeda website. The statement also said that Abdullah Battis was the leader of this suicide-murder mission.

An armed group of criminals shot at a car carrying Brigadier General Ali Salem al-Ameri, Colonel Ahmed Ba Wazir, and Sergeant Saleh Salem Kwair, along with their guards,

as it traveled through the al-Wadia’ area, reported sources from the Interior Ministry.

Brigadier General Ali Salem al-Ameri was the General Security Manager of the Wadi and Desert regions in Hadramout, and Colonel Ahmed Ba Wazir was the Sayun Security Branch Manager as well as the Manager of Sayun’s Criminal Investigation Department.

The car collided into a truck driving  the opposite way and caught on fire, added the source from the Interior Ministry.

The incident led to the deaths of Brigadier al-Ameri, Colonel Ba Wazir, Sergeant Saleh Salem Kwair, and their two guards.

The perpetrators escaped in their own car and a Hilux pickup, which they stole from the Health Ministry in Sayun.

Security forces are in pursuit of the perpetrators in order to bring them to justice.

An investigation is already under way to uncover more about the circumstances surrounding this criminal incident, and sources stressed that those responsible for this criminal act will not go unpunished.

In another incident in Hadramout, a security officer was killed during an operation to free a child from his kidnappers.

A source explained that a group from the al-Faqas family had kidnapped a boy, identified as Mohammed Abdullah al-Sheikh al-Shatiri, and taken him to the Yoon area in the al-Hajar district.

A security source from Hadramout said that security forces arrived at the site where it was believed the alleged kidnappers were holding the boy, when the kidnappers opened fire on their vehicles, killing Major General Mohammed Saleh Kasim Saror.

Then the security forces, in cooperation with the chiefs and local citizens of the area, surrounded and stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on Wednesday afternoon.

The operation was successful as the security forces caught ten of the criminals and freed the kidnapped boy.

Salem Ahmed al-Khanbashi, the Governor of Hadramout, gave a statement in which he passed on the President’s greetings and approval of the forces’ excellent, professional, and heroic performance.

The Governor praised the cooperation between the local residents, dignitaries, and the security forces in foiling this shameful crime.  He added, “Hadramout condemns such acts which are destructive to the security and public order, and are also rejected by Islam. They are against our society’s inherent practices and values and are nothing more than satanic acts that are contrary to the law and the constitution, and they undermine the stability of society.”

Governor al-Khanbashi asserted that the security and armed forces will firmly stand  against anyone who has intentions to harm citizens or society’s peace and tranquility.

Ahmed al-Hammed gave a speech on behalf of the child’s family praising the role of the local authorities, the security forces, and the entire society for the way they came together to end the kidnapping of their child and return him safely to his family.
