Yemenis await London Conference results

Yemen expects the London Conference to ensure support for Yemen in the development field, as will as the enhancement of its ability to combat extremism and terrorism, said Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi.

“Development is an essential thing that we need, beside competing terrorism, these are the main components points for us in this time” al-Qirbi said.

“Yemen has been calling for international support to build infrastructure, combat poverty and create jobs, as well as support in combating terrorism,” said al-Qirbi at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Al-Qirbi explained that the conference will continue for two hours and will be attended by four of the five permanent members of the Security Council in the absence of China, which have not been invited to Britain in response to its desire.

“Being able to organize this conference in such a quickly manner shows the importance of this meeting and reflects a genuine desire to help Yemen, because of this assistance long overdu, now everybody starts to feel the importance to give Yemen the attention it deserves,” al-Qirbi said.

He added that Yemen’s strategic geographical location is close to Somalia and the world feels that it has to strengthen Yemen’s capacity to deal with with the situation there and piracy.

“ We must strengthen the capacity of the Yemeni Coast Guard on order to protect our shores, and so can also have a role in the fight against piracy, hand over this mission to the region countries much better than the presence of all these foreign warships in the region,” he said.

“It better to leave it to the States in the region to deal with terrorism and not by foreign troops,” he added.

In reply to a question about whether a U.S. military base is possible to be set up in the country, the minister said that all U.S. and other warships in the region are operating through Djibouti but not Yemen.

Yemen’s Foreign Minister expressed Yemen’s confirmation of its pledges in its war on terror and extremism that pose direct threat to Yemen’s and the region’s security,

adding that Yemen works with the United States and its partners in the region on coordinating the efforts for supporting Yemen to take appropriate steps for curbing this phenomenon and confirmed that the war on al-Qaeda must be the responsibility of the Yemeni security forces.

al-Qirbi touched upon a British-hosted Conference on Yemen set for later this week, saying: we expect the summit comes out with, first and foremost, developmental aid to Yemen and helping strengthening Yemen’s anti-terror capabilities.

The call for the meeting proved a real desire to help us, he said, highlighting the significance of Yemen to the world under its geographic location.

 

 

For his part, Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mr. Hisham Sharaf said that the London International Conference on Yemen will be to unite the international community’s vision regarding the challenges of security and economic development facing the country.

He said that Yemen needs honor to $ 50 billion in the next ten years to establish the infrastructure to serve citizens and attract investment and

He asked the donors and international committee to reduce Yemen debt to the half.

In different view opinion Sa’ad Adeen bin Taleb, a member of SNACC said that the London conference would take away the authorities from Yemeni and the western will control the Yemeni issues.

“The solution is in the implementation of internal reforms,” he said.

Abdullah, al- Sa’afani a political analyst said that the Yemeni waiting from London Conference to discuss on basic problems faced Yemen, particularly poverty, unemployment and poor social conditions.

There are some people waiting from the London Conference to support the efforts of separation, but the real role of the conference is to support political, economic and security of the unified Yemen, primarily.

According al- Sa’afani that the stability of Yemen is no longer a requirement only locally, but is the need of regional and international of its geographical location being requested by the Gulf States and the Horn of Africa.

While observers fear the departure of the London Conference, a kind of custody on Yemen al- Sa’afani confirms that the conference will not produce any kind of guardianship of Yemen for several reasons including that the government will not accept any foreign intervention of any kind and that America and Britain would not be caught in the follies they still suffer in Afghanistan and Iraq.

 

Prime Minister Ali Mujawar will lead Yemeni delegation to the London Conference scheduled to be held next Wednesday, with the participation of 21 states and GCC secretary general.a

 

 

The Prime Minister’s delegation will be comprised of Dr. Rashad al-Alimi Deputy Premier for Defence and Security Affairs, minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Dr. Abu Baq al-Qirbi minister of Foreign Affairs.
