The Yemeni Security Authorities foiled a terrorist attack by al-Qaeda in Hadramout province this morning. The Security Authorities caught an al-Qaeda operative with explosives and a suicide belt, hours before his attempt to execute the suicide operation. A security source said that the captured is an al-Qaeda member, identified as Saleh al-Shawesh. Al-Shawesh was captured riding a motorcycle, wearing the suicide belt, and carrying two explosives in Khalaf area, in Hadramout. The security source said that they tracked him down according to information they received about a terrorist attack. They arrested him before he could reach Khalaf, where hotels and economic institutions are located. By foiling this terrorist attack, the Yemeni Security Authority proved success in its on-going mission to eradicate al-Qaeda and preventing terrorist attacks.

Last December and this January, Yemeni Security Authorities launched precautionary operations against al-Qaeda in Sana’a, Abyan, Arhab, Shabwah, and Marib. The operations resulted in killing and capturing dozens of al-Qaeda members, including high-profile leaders.
