The security authorities in Abyan Governorate have deployed 22 armed vehicles and tens of soldiers and officers Wednesday in Zanjibar city, Abyan capital’s streets and areas in order to strengthen security and prevent outlaws from destabilizing security.
Hamoud al-Sheikh, the Abyan Security Manager, said that conditions are stable and the campaign aims at pursuing outlaws who were involved in the past few days in attacks on shops, citizens, as well as shooting at government and security buildings. Their actions targeted security and stability of the Zanzibar city in particular and the Abyan Governorate in general.
Interior ministry sources said that the campaign is designated for ending the armed phenomenon that returned to Zanjibar city taking advantage of the riots, chaos and sabotage carried out by the lawless elements of the southern movement.
The ministry added that the force will face firmly the lawless actions in the governorate and will refer all those involved in them to justice.
In Marib, the security authorities said that they lifted a tribal roadblock on Safer route, in front of the Sun Temple, that was set by a group of al-Ashram and al-Sheikh tribes.
A force consisting of four armed vehicles headed to the spot of the blocked road, lifted the blockade and arrested those who made it, before gas and petroleum trucks were disrupted or halted.
The authorities are hunting down those involved in this action, ensuring the opening of the Safer route for the trucks’ movement, stressing that they will not tolerate any tribal blockades that try to disrupt the gas and petroleum locomotives in order to create supply crises in the country.
In a related issue the security authorities said that they captured 13154 pieces of weapons in different governorates last January.
The authorities explained that they captured 865 arms inside the cities while the rest of the pieces were caught around the governorates' borders and the main cities' entrances. They added that the weapon carrying prevention plan was implemented under the Ministry of Interior's directions and the daily follow up of the ministry's leadership to this implementation.
The arm carrying ban plan's execution is proceeding simultaneously with the plan to control vehicles involved in criminal cases, in order to prevent the return of arms carrying to the cities, as well as safeguarding the society’s security and stability.
