The preliminary investigations with the al-Qaeda operative, Saleh al-Habib Saleh al-Shawish, confirmed that he is an explosives expert and a member of Hamza al-Quaiti terrorist cell, said a security source.
Al-Shawish was captured by the security authorities in Mukalla last Monday and was planning to attack economic premises in Hadramout province. Before arrest, he was training some suicide bombers to launch terrorist operations. Al-Shawish and a Saudi national/member of al-Qaeda, Abdulla al-Dhahiri, prepared the car bomb that destroyed the central security camp in Sayun of Hadramout province last year. The investigations uncovered that al-Shawish was recruited by a member of the legislative authority of the al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula Organization, Khaled Ba Tarfi, who is believed to be in hiding in Marib province.
Following the operation that targeted Hamza al-Quaiti cell in Hadramout, resulting in killing al-Quaiti last year, al-Shawish ran away to Marib province. He stayed in al-Shawish for a year before being arrested driving a motorcycle and carrying a suicide belt with explosives in Khalaf area near Mukalla.
