Ten people were reportedly killed and 9 others injured in an explosion on early Tuesday dawn in the populated area of al-Masbah, Taiz province.
The explosion happened in a basement full of fireworks and dynamite, ripped through the three-floor building, caused a nearby building to collapse, and damaged a third.
Six women and tow children were killed among the causalities. Residents are working with a rescue team and have so far found one person alive, but later died. “According to our records and the folks’, no one is believed to be under the ruins of the buildings, which means the process of rescuing potential trapped people is over,” said Ahmed Saif, the security director of al-Qahera area.
The last figures of the victims showed that the injured are only 9; the others- 6 people- were from the civil defense staff and neighbors who immediately came to the rescue.
Medical diagnosis of the victims revealed the blast was of dynamite, AFP learned. The defense ministry’ website said it was as a result of fireworks and carbon products stored.
An investigation team has been carried out into the explosion. “Explosive materials had been stored badly in a confined space, which led to the explosion,” Saif said.
The exploded basement is said to belong to Mahyoob Moqbil al-Taweel, a wholesaler who is now in prison.
