A child bride passed away as result of severe bleeding from a tear in her womb last Tuesday in Hajjah hospital.
The 12-year-old Elham Mahdi Shoai passed away in the hospital just three days following her wedding after she was brutally sexually assault by her husband.
The medical report released by the Hajjah hospital stated that she was exposed to sexual exhaust, cervix tears and severe bleeding.
Dr. Arwa al-Rabie expressed sorrow for the incident, which she said might have been a result from neglecting the victim, as she had bled to death. However, al-Rabie said that she doubted that the girl passed away as a result of the sexual intercourse; instead it was because she was not rushed to the hospital once she started severe bleeding.
Dr. al-Rabie said that she was against early marriage because early pregnancy in itself represents a huge threat for girls’ lives. “In addition to the risk of the early pregnancy, child brides cannot perform life duties or their husband demands,” said Dr. al-Rabie.
She added that through her experience as a gynecologist, she found out that the early marriage percentage has shrunk from 90 percent among the older generation to 10 percent among the current generation.
