Due to gang attacks, Marib Gas Station has had trouble keeping constant electricity flowing to the rest of the country, including Sana’a.

Power transmission lines linked to Sana’a were fired upon by the Abeeda tribes in Marib province on Tuesday, May 25, leading to the break down of the Gas Power Station.
An official source from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy said that there have been more than twelve attacks on the Gas Power Station in Marib province, three of which occurred during the last four days. “35% of influx of energy that provides cities with power was lost. Many power transmission lines were cut, and it costs $50,000 to repair just one line,” said the official.
“The increased blackouts are because of these acts of sabotage by outlaws. The Gas Power Station was not touched. The problem is with power transmission lines. A work team was been sent there to fix the damage under the supervision of the Prime Minister,” Muhareb Ali Abu Ghanem, the Media Officer of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, told the Yemen Observer.
“The blackouts are out of control because what happened should have been handled by the security authorities. The problem is a security one rather than technical one,” added Abu Ghanem.
