A delegation of U.S. Congressional Senators led by George LeMieux, a member of the armed services committee, was received by President Ali Abdullah Saleh to commend the efforts exerted by Yemen in the fight against terrorism, said the official website of the General People’s Congress (GPC) al-Moatamar.
The visit was a sudden one. When contacting the U.S. embassy they replied that it took place suddenly and were not informed prior to the delegation’s arrival.
“In the visit, the delegation affirmed U.S. support for the efforts and recent developments in Yemen, pointing out that Yemen is an active partner of the U.S. and the U.S. Congress will support efforts to assist Yemen to overcome the challenges of development” al-Moatamar added.
President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in turn, affirmed the strengthening of relations and partnerships between the two countries to achieve common interests of the Yemeni and American peoples.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, the Minister of Local Administration, Abdullah Hussein al-Bashiri, the Secretary-General of the Presidency, the Minister of Finance, Noaman Taher al-Suhaibi and the U.S. embassy representative in Sana’a, Angie Bryan.
According to Yemen News Agency Saba, the ten priority plan adopted by Yemen has been discussed, focusing attention on the leadership of the Yemeni government in requiring regional and international support in order to achieve the noted priorities.
