The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) decided to mandate the education sector in the Education ministry to manage the process of reviewing and amending voter tables for 2010. This comes after the rejection of the parties to provide SEC with the names of their representatives for the committees in charge of the review and revision of voters’ lists in a timely manner.
The decision came after the Committee discussed the report submitted by the head of the affairs of political parties Alawi al-Attass about the results of the dialogue with the political parties. According to the percentages adopted in the presidential and local elections in 2006 the polls resulted in 54 percent for GPC and 46 percent for the JMP.
“The Committee discussed the proposed options for the formation of field-level committees, including the sector staff in the civil service, employment, and the education sector. The Committee approved the mandate of the education sector to manage the process of reviewing and amending voter tables for 2010,” SCER said in press release.
The head of the Supreme Council for the Joint Meeting Parties Mohammad al-Mutawkil said that the JMP will announce its position on the mandate of the education sector to manage the review and revision of voters list in a meeting next Monday with a mini-committee of the national dialogue of the JMP.
“We have evidence affirming the Illegality of SCER and will only considers the legitimacy until it is replaced by a new committee with the agreement of the parties represented in parliament,” al-Mutawkil said.
On the same filed, the political advisor to the President of the republic Abdulkarim al-Eryany affirmed Saturday that the national dialogue is the ideal means for overcoming challenges and tackling issues in the national arena, calling on parties to take part and help achieve the desired goals.
He pointed out that the GPC is keen to have the constitutional amendments ready before the elections, confirming that elections and the constitutional amendments are correlated counterparts so developments of the political system and amendments prepared prior to the elections is crucial.
Al-Eryany clarified that the GPC is serious and ready with the constitutional amendments that the believe deserve to be reviewed and discussed.
In a lecture he delivered at Sana’a University Saturday evening , Dr al-Eryany said, “ I don’t deny there are challenges but with belief in freedom, unity and the homeland, any challenge to the homeland can be faced with enough effort by the poeple.
Al-Eryany added,” We realize that the dialogue is the ideal means for overcoming challenges and tackling the issues in the national arena and we have to solve our issues amongst ourselves to concentrate on the homeland which is above any party, force or organization.”
The Jointing Meeting Parties “JMP” had been asked by the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum “SCER” to cancel elections as they claim it to be an illegal entity.
This came within a message addressed by the parties to the President following an SCER meeting in which they approved a draft and revised version of the 2010 voters list, considering the commission’s meeting poison in the atmosphere of dialogue and endangering relations between the political forces enlisted in the Committee for the preparation of the National Dialogue CPND.
