Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) distributed a statement denying the interior ministry’s reports regarding the killing al Qaeda members or the surrendering of its members to security.
Al Qaeda’s statement was widely distributed throughout Lawdar district, describing the interior ministry report as part of a media war.
Local sources said the statement was distributed in public places such as mosques, souks, and trade stores.
According to the statement, al Qaeda still has a control over Lawdar district, reassuring “their fellow Muslims that the mujahideen are at the height of their power.”
The statement cited some media cites as the mouthpiece of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, calling its “fellow Muslims” not to receive news from the official media.
In another statement, al Qaeda claimed responsibility
for killing 15 soldiers, including an officer in recent attacks in Zinjubar, the capital of Abyan province.
Based on tribal pressure, al Qaeda militants in Abyan are said to have agreed to leave Lawdar district, Abyan province, provided all military forces withdraw from the district, local sources told News Yemen website.
