Gunmen believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda assassinated early Wednesday an investigation officer in Ja’ar district, Abyan province, and a civilian believed to be the son of a prominent figure of the General People’s Congress (GPC), a security source confirmed with the Yemen Observer.

According to local media, the gunmen were riding a motorcycle when they killed the officer and the civilian.

In related news, a group of al-Qaeda militants skirmished with government troops on Tuesday around midnight in Lawdar district, said the same source, who wished to remain anonymous. The confrontation, however, did not result in any causalities.

“The presence of al-Qaeda in Lawdar district began to decrease and the internally displaced people have started to come back again.”
