The Defense Minister, Mohammed Nasser Ahmed, met Saturday in Ja’ar district with government officials and tribal leaders of Abyan and urged them to unite and cooperate with the local authorities to hunt down al-Qaeda members according to a security source

While the minister was on his official visit,  a group of unknown masked men blew up a military vehicle in Abyan province early Saturday morning, a security source in Abyan said.

The source said that the masked men forced the vehicle’s driver to get out and aimed their weapon at the gas station that led to the explosion.

The vehicle, according to the same source, was carrying water to one of the military camps in Ja’ar district, Abyan province. The masked men ran away. The attackers’ identity was not unknown though it “bore the hallmarks of al-Qaeda,” the source said.
