Yemeni security forces dispersed two student demonstrations on Saturday, one against the government while others were demonstrating in support of the government. Security forces intervened by launching tear gas into the group of demonstrators at the gates of Sana’a University as the two groups of demonstrators began threatening each other with violence.
Hundreds of members of the opposition parties led by prominent members from the Islamist Islah party were chanting “ Ali, Ali go after your friend Bin Ali” in reference to President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the deposed Tunisian President Zain Al Abdeen bin Ali.
However the University students who are loyal to the ruling party were chanting “Ali or death, Ali or death,” and, “Youth, youth, Islah are the terrorists.”
The demonstrations by the students loyal to the ruling party were the first on Saturday, but the demonstrations of the opposition started earlier last week.
The JMP parties had threatened many times to go to the streets if their demands are not met.
