Sana’a Airport was surrounded by GPC members, who were holding the famous al-Motamar blue flag where a horse is featured, ready to welcome the triumphant return of its politicians, who last year were injured in former President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s failed assassination plot.

Thousands of people received Dr. Rashad al-Alimi and Abdu Borji in Sana'a.

After a year away from Yemen, Doctor Rashad al-Alimi - ex-deputy Prime Minister – and Saleh’s Media Secretary Abdo Bourji returned to Sana’a Wednesday June 13.

Both men suffered serious injuries June 3rd, 2011 when a bomb tore through the presidential mosque at al-Nahdeen area, killing and injuring scores of state dignitaries. President Saleh himself was badly injured and had to undergo eight consecutive surgeries in Saudi Arabia.

Witnesses reported the route to Sana’a International Airport was blocked by the sheer numbers of well-wishers and party loyalists.

The two officials’ return comes 10 days after the arrival of Sheikh Ameen Sadeq Abu Ras, Secretariat General Assistant of the GPC, in Sana’a. After the reception, the welcoming party escorted the men to Sab’een Square crossing in a long car convoy.
