Al-Qaeda in Yemen assassinates military commander

Commander of Yemen Southern provinces General Salem Qatan was killed when a suicide bomber of Somali origin detonated his self  at a vehicle carrying General Qatan in Rimi zone in Aden on Monday morning.

Eyewitnesses said that the suicide bomber was standing at a road pump in Rimi zone of Aden and when the car carrying General Salem Qatan stopped at the road pump the suicide bomber detonated his self causing fatal injuries to General Qatan and his guards.

General Qatan and his guards were rushed to hospital but they all died sustaining their fatal wounds.

The suicide bomber turned into pieces scattered in large area round the place of the incident.

General Qatan lead the military operation against al-Qaeda in Abyan province that lead into pushing al-Qaeda militants out of Zinjubar, Jaar and Shugra towns during the past two weeks.
