Eleven police students killed in suicide bombing in Yemen

Eleven police students were killed and twenty eight were injured when a laden-explosive car detonated at a police academy in the capital Sana’a, a police officer said.

The car was barking at the eastern gate of the Police Academy and went off as students were going out of the academy on July 10 afternoon, an operation police officer told the Yemen Observer on condition of anonymity.

The officer said that one suspect was arrested as he was riding a motorcycle with a spy camera glasses, shooting the incident. Eyewitnesses said “the bombing took place inside the academy”.

Waleed Hassan Hassan Abdullah, a student at the academy, told Yemen Observer staff whose work station is based in a short distance to the academy that the bomb occurred inside the academy when students started to get out of the eastern gate at around 1: 25 pm.

Two hours has passed and yet the ambulances still running to the scene, which indicates a larger number of causalities among the victims.

The Operation Officer at the Interior Ministry said “there are security infiltrations within the police academy that has been looming over for a month now.” The officer did not say any further details.

The bombing is the second of its kind in the capital after the first bombing attacked a parade in the 70th Square in Sana’a last May, killing more than hundred soldiers of the Central Security Forces.

 No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing yet, although it bore the hallmarks of al-Qaeda.
