Security in the south Yemeni city of Aden found on July 18 three explosive devices inside a hotel that was intended to host military commanders, a security officer said.

The officer, who spoke under anonymity condition, said the explosive devices were planted inside a five star hotel in al-Mualla district. “The first investigation into the explosive devices showed that they were intended to target military forces who were about to arrive [in the hotel],” the officer said, quoting a security statement from Aden City.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry warned two days ago of “suspected objects” that might be found in the ground, in reference to the recent wave of explosive devises found in the capital. Last Wednesday an explosive device went off as police cadets were leaving the Police Academy in the Sana'a, killing 11 and injuring two dozen.

“They [the explosive devices] bear the hallmark of al-Qaeda,” the officer said. The devices were sent to the engineering department in Aden City and now are defused, according to the officer.
