Assassination of air force leader uncertain, official

The news of the assassination attempt on the Air Force commander is “unconfirmed yet”, said an officer at the 1st Armored Division based in Sana’a.

BBC Arabic TV channel reported an hour ago in a newsflash that the Air Force Commander of the 1st Armored Division was assassinated. It did not give further details on the alleged assassination. Later it said Mansour Hatim, who was identified earlier by the BBC as the air force commander, was an officer who was injured in an assassination attempt.

The news [on the assassination attempt] is uncertain yet,” said an interior minister’s officer, quoting another officer at the 1st Armored Division as saying. “There is no such a name responsible for the air defense. That’s [The commander of the air force] is Sadeq Sarhan,” said the officer.

The 1st Armored Division’s source, who works as an operation officer, said no assassination attempt was reported. “The only chaos that took place within the past few hours was an exchange of fire by a group of bullies in an area neighboring the 1st Armored Division,” said the operation officer.
