A family belonging to the village of Sha’ab al-Muraisi located in Ibb province executed their daughter because of her refusal to marry a man chosen by her family and married with another man who she chose.
According to communications between the Office of Lawyer Naji Mohammed al-Muraisi to the Office of the Attorney General, the girl’s two brothers and her ex-husband have admitted by the death penalty against the girl last week.
The girl was publically killed by gunfire in front of all the resident of the village and buried in a gruesome manner.
According to the memorandum, Hamed and Mujahid, the girl’s two brothers, her ex-husband Mansour, and their cousin Hamid opened fire on the girl’s body after they bound her with ropes in the center of the village.
The Lawyer, al-Muraisi who is a relative of the girl, considered her killing without trial as a crime against humanity, contacting the Attorney General for guidance on how to prosecute the perpetrators and bring them to trial.
The girl’s family living in Hizaz, a southern neighborhood in Sana’a, decided to marry their daughter to a relative in return that he would abandon his share of inheritance in the family, but the girl refused and decided to marry with another man from Raymah province by legal convening.
This decision infuriated the family because she married outside of the family and lead them to decide to execute her without allowing her to meet or communicate with her parents.
According to the communiqué, the execution received applause among people of the village who saw it as a victory for the family’s honor, but it left terror and panic among girls of the village who fear the same fate if they refused to marry the person that the family chooses.
