Yemen security intercepted suicide bombs yesterday aimed to target commander in chief headquarters in the capital Sana’a, a security official said.

A group of suspected al-Qaeda militants were disguised as mourners in a funeral procession carrying explosive-laden coffin near al-Urthi area, the defense complex in the capital, Sana’a.

“About fifteen were arrested along with the ‘deceased,” said the officer who declined to be named for not being authorized to. “There were three explosive devises in the coffin,” said the officer.

He said that the National Security, Yemen main intelligence agency, arrested 15 suspects as they were approaching the defense headquarters. The other “mourners” escaped, the officer said.

The defense complex witnessed yesterday a national celebration of the 50th anniversary of Yemen Revolution.
