Suspected al-Qaeda assassinate US embassy staff

A U.S. embassy security member in Yemen was assassinated by a suspected al-Qaeda link in the capital Sana’a, a security source said.

A security officer in Sana’a said that unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle attacked on 10 am today Qasim Aqlan, identified by the security source as “Assistant Security Officer at the [U.S.] Embassy”. He said Aqlan was immediately killed but had no further details on his job at the embassy. 

The officer, speaking on anonymity condition, said the attackers bore “the hallmark of al-Qaeda” He said: “Six of colleague officers have been assassinated in this way.”

Media officer at the embassy couldn’t be reached for further details.
