Three people from the pro-government militia were killed in a suicide bomb that targeted an hour ago a group of the militia in Abyan province, a security source said.
A security source in Abyan capital, Zinjubar, said an explosive-laden car went off at a security checkpoint run by the militia in Mudiya district. “The [explosive-laden] car went off when it reached al-Qufl checkpoint,” said the security, “three people were killed. No news yet of how many was injured.”
The militia, known as the Popular Committees ,have been fighting alongside the government forces and in last June managed to force al-Qaeda militants out of their stronghold. Al-Qaeda however still has little presence in small parts of Abyan and in neighboring province of Shabwa. Al-Qaeda has succeeded in targeting the Popular Committees in Abyan and Aden, killing dozens of them.
The source said the attack was likely conducted by al-Qaeda.
