Attack on pipeline in Marib province at Al Shabwan area in November 2011
|
Tribesmen, who escaped a government hunt earlier today, attacked a pipeline in Marib province minutes ago, a security official said.
Ali Saeed al-Yusifi, General Director of Abeeda district, said that gunmen from al-Damashiqa tribe attacked an oil pipeline at 19km in the Abeeda district. They had escaped a government helicopter attack when they tried to blow up the same oil pipeline earlier in the morning.
“It’s the same people who tried to blow up the pipeline here. They escaped and have now managed to attack the pipeline in 19km,” said al-Yusifi.
The pipeline exports crude oil from Safer (more than 60 kilometers east of Marib) to Ras Isa port. It’s length is 340 km and has a width of 24 inches. This line serves many of the oil fields and sectors in Marib, Shabwa and transports large quantities of oil estimated at about 110 thousand barrels of oil per day.
